Assessment highlights systems with the best performance in the selective collection of cardboard packaging for liquid foods (ECAL).

Resulima and Valorminho, companies responsible for the Sorting, Selective Collection, Recovery and Treatment of Solid Urban Waste System in 12 municipalities in Alto Minho, Vale do Lima and Baixo Cávado, were recognised in the “Best Performance. More Recycling" competition, promoted by Tetra Pak in partnership with Sociedade Ponto Verde, for their performance in recycling liquid food packaging (generically referred to as beverage cartons).

In mainland Portugal, Valorminho achieved the highest annual percentage increase in the collection of these ECAL packages and Resulima recorded the highest per capita collection.

This distinction is part of the 3rd edition of the initiative that recognises the best performing Urban Waste Management Systems in this type of packaging. As part of this assessment, Valorminho showed significant growth of 141.2% in the recovery of this material in 2025, demonstrating a very significant improvement in its operational performance.

In turn, Resulima stood out for its best performance on the mainland, achieving an average annual collection of 1.004 kg per inhabitant, positioning itself as the SGRU with the best result in this category.
