Recycling and Citizen Participation Increase
Resulima, responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the six municipalities of the Vale do Lima and Baixo Cávado, recorded a 4% growth in the selective collection of packaging in 2024, compared to 2023. This increase reflects the continuous investment in improving selective collection capacity and the growing participation of the population.
Among the materials collected, paper and cardboard registered a 2% increase, plastic and metal a 10% increase, and glass a 3% increase. These results are due to the expansion and optimization of collection points, recycling centers, and door-to-door collection with businesses and services, as well as the improvement of collection routes.
The active participation of citizens, combined with continuous investment in vehicles, containers, equipment, and environmental education initiatives, has allowed Resulima to send more and more waste for recycling. In the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Barcelos, Esposende, Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo, containerization and human resources dedicated to selective collection have been reinforced.
The increase in selective collection and, consequently, recycling, is the result of the joint effort of Resulima, the municipalities and the citizens. To all, we extend our gratitude for the commitment to a more sustainable future.
